Personal Priorities

What does the word priority mean to you? Priorities should be anything that’s most important to you. It could be financial, vital to your health, career driven, or even making a happy home and marriage. Wherever you are in life; we all have specific priorities that can change with the seasons and should always be thought about in a way that will help serve a purpose in your everyday.

No priorities should ever be set in stone; they should be flexible and realistic and should always come from a place in your heart. Not what you think people expect to see from you, or what you see in magazines. And if you’re ever wondering “why set everyday personal priorities?” Because without them, your day serves no purpose; and if you’re like me, you can easily waste your day wondering what’s next Or counting down the minutes to bedtime.

Setting priorities for yourself helps set a rhythm in your home and your daily routine that will be the most productive for your life and will eventually help you reach goals and dreams. To get where you want to be in life, you need to set priorities. Just remember they don’t have to be big to make an impact in your life.

When you think of the word priority, do you think of something big? Like buying a house, getting married, landing that dream job, or starting a family? Those are all long-term goals we have. But to get there, you need to have a plan and priorities. When I say priorities, I’m meaning they can be as little as waking up earlier than your usual time, standing instead of sitting or even making sure to eat breakfast every day. Whatever season of life you’re in right now. Reflect on it. And search for what’s most important to you in this season.

You may be reluctant because sometimes that feeling like you never have enough time overcomes you. Never enough time to get whatever you need to get done, so it just becomes overwhelming, and you try to push it aside as often as you can? Yeah, that can be me too. I usually spread myself so dang thin, that I end up pushing everything aside and ignoring everything I put on my to-do list because it’s too overwhelming & sometimes I think it’s better to tell myself “I’ll just do it tomorrow.”

The hardest thing to tell yourself is to not add anything to your list that’s not that important because if I’m honest, I feel the best about myself after a productive day. But realistically, some of the things I add to my list, are unnecessary and don’t serve me a purpose. Like, reorganizing the babies nursery for the 10th time this month.

Unmotivational days or weeks, come in a wave for me as well and if I don’t reflect on my why, my reasoning for getting up in the morning, I lose track of the days, and they are the most unproductive. Those days aren’t fun, and they are hard. But instead of sitting and dwelling on the coulda, shoulda, woulda, you can take charge. Start off by journaling. Talk to your inner self, and let her know what you truly want in life. Sometimes the most unexpected expectations you have for yourself, you don’t realize it until you write it down on paper.

Now the hardest part of reordering your priorities is accepting that you won’t get everything done in one day. Take time to write down all of the things you need to do to get where you want to go. & organize them by what’s most important to what can wait. Make sure to always leave time for yourself and your family throughout the days, don’t fill your entire days. Instead, take your to-do list and place them in your schedule and spread them throughout the week.

“You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage- pleasantly, smilingly, non-apologetically to say “no” to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger “yes” burning inside.”
