I thought it would be a fun idea to make play dough out of scratch for Millie today since I needed some way to keep her occupied while I tried to tidy up the house before this weekends trip to Utah. I can’t be the only one who looks like a chicken with their head cut off a few days before a family trip, right? There’s just so much to do like laundry, packing, and I even bought a mini cooler to store some fruits for the long car ride, so now I need time to cut up and store some finger foods. I thought I was going to get a lot more done like vacuuming, but here I am sharing with you guys this super easy homemade play dough recipe instead. Because you know, priorities.
I thought I was going to have to run to the market for some ingredients, but surprisingly everything I needed was already in my cupboard.
What you’ll need:
1 cup of flour
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon olive oil (you can use any oil you’d like)
1/3 cup of salt
2 teaspoons cream tartar
Cedarwood essential oil
Lavender essential oil
This recipe was so easy and took about 10 minutes tops!
- You add all the ingredients into a medium-size saucepan, and place on a medium to low heat and stir until dough thickens. Make sure the batter is thick enough to where it’s sticking to the spoon.
- Place dough on plate to cool.
I added a few drops of cedarwood so it could help with relaxation. Also, when your kids are finished playing, You can store the play dough in a ziplock bag or sealed container. Works like a charm, and it’s super easy to make. I don’t even know how many times I’ve bought enough play dough and have thrown it away because of the mess it’s made. So finding a homemade solution is perfect for those moments when I need to find something for Millie to do to keep busy!
