Phew! I’m so glad last week is gone and over with. It was ROUGH for Xander and me. Xander, because he was getting super frustrated and was hungry. For me, because I just wasn’t producing enough milk to keep him happy. It most likely was a growth spurt, or just a drop in my milk supply because he always clusters feed. Either way, I needed to find a solution FAST, because I wanted to give up so badly. But the thought of giving up brought me a lot of guilt (I’m no way against formula, as a matter of fact, Ethan was formula fed). I just had the easiest time with nursing Millie, so I felt like if I gave up with Xander, it would be like as if I didn’t try hard enough.
Well, I decided to reach out to you guys for some help. And the response was incredible. You ladies are the reason why we are having a better day today, and I cannot thank you enough for your support. So I’m sharing with all of you what suggestions I used that helped me bump up my milk supply within 24 hours and Now Xander (and me) are as happy as can be!
I guess this is a no-brainer; I was drinking about 4-5 water bottles a day. So I bumped up my intake to 7 water bottles a day. I Indulged me in water; it felt great!
2. Skin to skin
I honestly thought skin to skin was only for the newborn stage, but my friend Diana over at Mother Soul Shares Blog is a Lactation consultant and she reassured me that it would help my supply.
3. Pumping/ Nursing Often
So I was told to nurse Xander on demand, and as soon as he fell asleep to pump. I did this for two days ALL. DAY. LONG.
4. Lactation Cookies/Bars
I have tried these Lactation oatmeal bars from boobie bars as well as a local bakery where I live made me a fresh batch of Lactation cookies! I mean who doesn’t love sweets?
5. Essential Oils
Oils have played a huge role in our household the last year, and Basil, Fennel, and Wild Orange played a huge role in milk supply!
If you’re interested in knowing more about how oils can benefit your everyday life, please contact Lindsay directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
6. Fenugreek + Blessed Thistle Pills
I got the brand Upspring Milk flow breastfeeding supplement and I took 2 capsules a day.
7. Relax and Don’t Stress
I guess it’s easier said than done. I wasn’t too stressed because I knew my milk supply would bump up eventually.
