Xander’s birth story + Our Newborn Photos

Welcome to the world Alexander Salvador Esquivel! Born on November 13th, 2016 at 11:26 am 7lbs 13oz 20in of pure cuteness! Our hands are full, and hearts even fuller!

For those of you who followed me on my pregnancy journey, you knew how HARD this pregnancy was on me. From going an ENTIRE week overdue to feeling overwhelmed and depressed in the last trimester. You wouldn’t believe how ready I was for him to be here! So I would love to take you back to the day he finally decided to make his grand entrance!

Since I hit 35 weeks, I was already at 2cm dilated, and 75% effaced. You have no idea how much that freaked me out because we were all sure Xander would be here any day…. Fast forward to 39 weeks, when both Millie and Ethan made their grand entrance, I was 45 pounds heavier than I was before I found out I was pregnant, I was 4cm dilated and 100% effaced. My doctor swore after she swept my membranes she would see me at the hospital that night. Sitting at 41 weeks pregnant, and he STILL wasn’t here. Feeling discouraged at the fact that my body failed me in letting him come naturally, I finally opted at an induction that was scheduled for November 12th, at 3:00 am.

On November 11th, at 7:00 pm as soon as we arrived at my parent’s house to drop off Millie and Ethan who were so excited to meet their baby brother. We received a phone call from the hospital stating that they were busy, and all their L&D rooms were full and that they would call me as soon as they had a room for me. Disappointed, we packed up the kids and went back home. I didn’t sleep a peep that night.

The Next day, I didn’t feel like doing anything besides waiting for that phone call. I think Joe was a little doubtful that they would even call back, and he was convinced I was going to have to wait until my next scheduled appointment to book another induction date. So, he dragged me out of the house to get my mind off things. Come around 5 pm, I was getting way to anxious, so I rang my mother-in-law that works as an ER nurse at the hospital I was scheduled to deliver. I practically begged her to call the L&D ward and ask them to get me in. (I’m so spoiled!) Well, she told me that they were cleaning the rooms and I should be receiving a phone call within a few hours. Still doubtful, we headed back to my parents to drop off the kids. Worst case, we at least get a good nights sleep. Well, my mom convinced me to take one more walk with her before I headed home, and I think we were about 20 minutes into our walk and a wonderful conversation when my phone started ringing, loudly! On the screen, it read “Labor and Delivery!” I don’t think I even let it ring twice before I answered. YAY! The nurse told me that I could head over to the hospital now. I was so excited, and my nerves started kicking in right away. We were about to have a baby!

While coming back from our walk to tell Joe the news, we were talking about what in the heck Joe and I were going to name this baby. I was complaining to my mom that Joe hated every single name I liked and I thought all of his were boring and earlier that day he mentioned that He liked Alexander. I told him we could name him Alexander, if his nickname was Xander and he hated that idea, so back to the drawing board we went. Well, I knew Joe’s grandma wanted us to name our baby after her late husband because our due date was on his birthday, and although Salvador was not an option for Joe and me, my mom suggested: “Why don’t you name him Alexander Salvador Esquivel.” When she said that name, it gave me chills. It just fit, and I never thought of putting two and two together…. So we have a name!

We arrived at the hospital around 8:30 pm on November 12th. I was NERVOUS. I didn’t think I would feel like this because I was so anxiously waiting for this exact moment. After getting hooked up with all the IV’s and such, it was time to sit back and relax! They checked me, and I was still at 4cm dilated. So I knew we would most likely be here for a while. A few hours later they started me on Pitocin and to be honest, as soon as I felt one strong contraction I opted for the epidural. I thought well if I have to get induced, I might as well be spoiled and enjoy this labor. So epidural it was! My mom showed up, and we watched Hallmark movies all night. It was about 8am in the morning, and I was so hungry I remember jokingly telling my mom “If he doesn’t come before lunch time, I am going to be so mad.” But guess what? I was still at 4cm dilated at 10 am! At that moment I knew we would be here throughout the night as well.

At 11am, I progressed to 6cm, and the nurse rang the DR to come break my waters and by 11:20 am the DR walks in, and tells me I’m at 9cm and I’m ready to push. They started prepping and getting everything situated. I remember Joe holding my hand standing by my face because he said “This time I am going to be up by your face because I don’t want to see anything.” Next thing you know, you have the Dr saying “OK dad, come hold her feet.” I started laughing because that’s exactly where he didn’t want to be. Sorry babe! By 11:23 am, I had my first “Push ” and by 11:26 am Alexander was here! I was absolutely surprised at how fast he came. Literally, I had him in just ONE contraction.

Holding baby Xander for the first time felt so surreal, I just couldn’t believe he was actually here. He came out looking exactly like me when I was a baby, no hair, chubby cheeks, and everything. Ethan and Millie had so much hair, and Xander… Nothing! Absolutely in love and over the moon, Joe and I spent all afternoon in awe of him. He is perfect.

I wanted to share with you all Alexanders newborn shoot. He was approximately 1 week old when these photos were taken and we worked with the sweetest Newborn photographer Nat Marie Photography who is based out of Gilbert, AZ. She came to our house and captured the love we are all feeling for Xander in such a sweet way.

Nat Marie Photography and I are currently teaming up and giving my readers $50 off your first session if you mention MYWIFESTYLES.
